Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

The Journal of Emerging Financial Markets and Policy (JEFMP), published by the Sri Lanka Finance Association (SLFA), is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. All parties involved in the publication process—including authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher—are expected to uphold the following principles. JEFMP follows internationally recognized principles of publication ethics and draws on relevant guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Authorship and Originality

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original, have not been published elsewhere, and are not under consideration by another journal. All individuals who have made significant contributions to a manuscript should be appropriately acknowledged as authors. Plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, and other forms of academic misconduct are unacceptable.

2. Peer Review and Confidentiality

All original manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Emerging Financial Markets and Policy are subjected to a preliminary screening process by the Editorial Board based on author guidelines, the scope of the journal, and the quality of the manuscript. The manuscripts that pass the initial screening undergo a double-blind peer-review process. Manuscripts are assigned to two subject experts in the same or related fields by the Editor-in-Chief through consultation with the Editorial Board to conduct separate anonymous reviews. Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and confidential evaluations and to disclose any potential conflicts of interest. Manuscripts and information obtained during the review process must not be used for personal or professional advantage. Complete set of instructions on peer review are available in the Guidelines for Reviewing a Manuscript.

Based on the review reports, the Editorial Board may accept, reject or send for revision. If the decision is to send for revision, the review reports are sent to the corresponding author to address the comments appropriately in a timely manner and resubmit the revised manuscript with separate written responses as to how each comment was addressed in the revised paper. Once the revised manuscript is received, the manuscript along with author responses are sent to the original reviewers for their further review and comments. If necessary, this review process may be repeated multiple times as long as there are substantial comments for revisions. A revised and resubmitted manuscript may be rejected if comments are not addressed to the satisfaction of the reviewers. If the reviewers determine that the comments have been adequately addressed, the paper will be accepted for publication subject to language editing.

3. Editorial Responsibilities

Editors are responsible for making publication decisions based on the manuscript’s academic quality, originality, relevance, and compliance with the journal’s policies.

Once the final version of the paper is ready to be published, it will be sent to the corresponding author for a final check and any further corrections, if any. After this process, the Managing Editor will make arrangements to publish in an upcoming volume of the Journal.

Editors must maintain confidentiality and manage submissions fairly and impartially, without discrimination based on personal or institutional characteristics. Editors must not use unpublished information from submitted manuscripts for their own research.

4. Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, personal, professional, or other relationships that could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, the publication process.

5. Research Ethics

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research complies with applicable ethical standards, laws, regulations, and institutional requirements. Where research involves human participants or other activities requiring ethical approval, appropriate approval and relevant information must be provided.

6. Complaints, Appeals, and Allegations of Misconduct

JEFMP welcomes complaints and appeals relating to editorial decisions, publication procedures, or ethical concerns. Such matters should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor and will be considered fairly, confidentially, and without prejudice. Allegations of plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, authorship disputes, or other forms of misconduct will be investigated in accordance with appropriate ethical principles and, where relevant, applicable COPE guidance. Where necessary, the journal may seek information from authors, reviewers, institutions, or other relevant parties before reaching a decision.

7. Corrections and Retractions

JEFMP will take appropriate action to correct the scholarly record when errors or ethical concerns are identified. Corrections will be published where necessary, and articles may be retracted in cases involving serious errors, plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or other misconduct that substantially undermines the integrity of the published work. Retractions and corrections will be clearly identified and linked to the original article where practicable.

By submitting a manuscript to JEFMP, authors confirm their compliance with these principles and agree to cooperate with the journal in addressing any ethical concerns that may arise.
